1948 Week 4 - Boston Yanks at Detroit Lions

Discovered game photo of previously unknown matchup...
There were only 3 teams that wore white jerseys in 1948. The Steelers only wore their's in the preseason and wore black for their game in Detroit.
The Eagles wore green jerseys for both their regular season and preseason games with Detroit.
The Yanks are the only other team with white jerseys.
We have photos of all 3 other Detroit 'night games' and all three featured the Lions playing teams in colored jerseys.
This photo does not.
And since the Lions only wore these red/white/black combinations in 1948, this photo must, therefore, be from the 10/9/48 game.

10/9/48 - BOS @ DET

We will therefore add Boston in white-over gold and Detroit in red helmets, red jerseys, black pants, and red socks for this match-up.

1946 Boston Yanks

Helmet - matches orange/yellow in the color photo
2 jerseys - match the yellow and green of the color photo
pants - match color photo
belt - no evidence that it contrasts pants
2 pairs socks - match yellow & green in color photo.
Yellow socks were not NW stripes, but of the 2-green-stripe variety.
1s are curve-tops as in 1944-45 (11/24/46 vs LA)

Of most importance are the photos vs PHIL and vs PITT for any years to be able to compare vs known colors. In 12/8/46 game vs PHIL, BOS's green appears darker than PHIL's green throughout the photo - especially on the right side.

1948 Boston Yanks

Shoulder/sleeve stripes of the green jersey are not white. 12/5/48 vs PHIL shows that the stripes do NOT match the white of the Eagles jersey. They are light yellow or simply faded as compared to 1947.
Pants are darker and almost bronze-gold; darker than WASH's gold pants (10/31/48).
Helmets match pants as in 12/5/48 photo vs PHIL.

1947 Boston Yanks

Green jerseys are the same as 1946 with only change being made to number font - now box-tops. (11/16/47 vs PHIL; 10/5/47 vs DET)
However, a change is needed for the current preseason only - still curve-top 1s as in 1944-46. Photo from 9/10/47 preseason game vs LA shows curve-top 1s.
9/29/47 photo vs NYG and 11/2/47 vs CHB and 12/7/47 vs PITT shows helmet is again metallic gold.
Same 9/29/47 vs NYG and 10/26/47 vs CHC (and others) show that white jersey's yellow in the sleeve stripe is only slightly different from yellow of pants.
Pants/belt remain same as 1946.
Socks are same dark green as jersey.

1945 Boston Yanks

The 1945 green jerseys are the same as those constructed for 1946.
Same version of dark green and yellow are used.
Early season pants are the same as 1944 with buttstripes.
Starting with 10/21/45 @ GB, BOS wore pale yellow pants without buttstripes or side-stripes.
Socks are the same dark green with 2 yellow stripes as 1944.
White jersey is same as 1944.
Helmet is same metallic 'golden' shade as 1944.

10/28/45 vs PITT photo (#1) shows pants lighter than PITT's yellow pants without buttstripes.
10/28/45 vs PITT photo (#2) shows contrasting green belt from 1944.

1944 Boston Yanks

Team photo shows 1944 green jerseys are lighter green than socks.
Socks' green and yellow are left the same as 1945.
Green of both jersey is lightened a bit compared to 1945-48.
Yellow of jersey stripes matches yellow of socks and is the same white jersey as 1945.
1s are curve-tops per team photo.
Pants match 'metallic' gold of helmet in 11/5/44 NYG photo.
Buttstripes in same photo are lighter than green socks so the same lighter green from the green jersey is used for the buttstripes.
Belts in team photos appear to match green jersey.
Same pants/buttstripes/belt combination is used for both 1944-45.
